ENGAGEMENT RING CARE FROM THE EXPERTS AT ALBERT’S DIAMOND JEWELERS

The engagement ring is a symbol of romance and commitment. Beautiful and radiant, these pieces are meant to be worn for a lifetime. As a result, they need to be cleaned and cared for every so often. The elements of everyday life are always threatening the ring’s integrity. Luckily, cleaning is easy. Our experts at Albert’s Diamond Jewelers explain how to best take care of your engagement ring while cleaning it.

HOW TO CLEAN AN ENGAGEMENT RING AT HOME

Whether it is dirtied by sweat, lotions, or other messy items, an at-home cleaning can work wonders. The easiest and most effective way to clean most jewelry is through a simple soap and water bath. Simply mix warm water and dish soap in a small bowl and soak your ring in the sudsy water. If it has something sticky or grimy on it like lotion or makeup, scrub it gently with a soft toothbrush. This should work like a charm to ensure that the engagement ring is as good as new. If you use a solution, make sure it is alcohol and chemical-free.

WHAT NOT TO USE WHEN CLEANING YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING

WHAT NOT TO USE WHEN CLEANING YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING

Diamonds have a reputation for strength, but that does not mean you should use harsh chemicals. The setting can be delicate or prone to discoloration and tarnishing. Bleach, chlorine, and acetone can ruin an engagement ring, so they should never be used. Baking soda, toothpaste, and powdered cleaners are unwise as well. If you are using a jewelry cleaner, inspect its ingredients, as not all of them are the same. When scrubbing, do not use scratchy toothbrushes or scrub pads. They can scratch and damage the setting’s precious metal. Gold in particular can be quite fragile.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN YOUR RING?

If you wear the ring daily, make sure to clean it once a week. It will retain its shine, spark, and brilliance as well as keep buildup at bay. Once or twice a year you should also take it to a jeweler to get cleaned. They have special tools and knowledge that allow them to clean parts you cannot.
