It's the season of love and however you want to commemorate it this Valentine's Day, Albert's Diamond Jewelers is on your side. Engagement and wedding rings, the actual wedding itself, and even the honeymoon could involve the Region's most cherished jeweler who has always pledged life-long love of their patrons and clients.
For more than two decades, the "I Do" event at Albert's Diamond Jewelers has become one of the most notable Valentine's Day traditions in Northwest Indiana. The event originally started at the Albert's East Chicago location when co-owners Fred and Donna Halpern renewed their vows at the store. It has continued to grow ever since. So much, in fact, that they take the stress out of the wedding planning and are now offering one lucky couple a honeymoon of a lifetime, thanks to a partnership with Comcast.
"We work a lot with them on a few different events throughout the year, so wherever we can support the Halpern Family, we always want to because they're a great partner," said Craig Chism, an account executive for Comcast. "Doing these free weddings for people, and giving one lucky couple a nice honeymoon is something we really like to do."
Every Valentine's Day, Albert's converts the back of its store into a chapel with an aisle leading up to a beautiful white backdrop with flowers for the vows and seating on each side for guests. A Bridal Chorus song plays as each bride makes their way down the aisle. Couples also have the option to include bridesmaids and groomsmen in the ceremony. Once the deal is sealed with a kiss, Albert's plays the traditional Wedding March song to commemorate the unions.
Last year, 19 couples walked down the aisle at Albert's and Lynette and Craig Covaciu were the lucky bride and groom who won the all-expenses-paid honeymoon. Lynnette said Albert's made the couple's wedding day easy and stress-free.
"We were actually going to go to the Lake County Courthouse to get married. We didn't want anything extravagant," Covaciu said. "When we were shopping for our wedding bands, they [Albert's staff] told us about getting married at the store. They started showing us pictures and told us about how we could win a free honeymoon, so we decided to make Albert's the place. They handle everything, from the officiant to the photos and video, we just had to make sure we had our Lake County marriage license."
Like any couple who signs ups for the "I Do" event, Lynette and Craig shared their love story with Albert's, hoping to win the Comcast Honeymoon.
"We were really happy when we received the email from Albert's that said we had won," Covaciu said. "We have two kids, so we were planning to go on a honeymoon later on, but when we won the chance to either go to Sonoma, California or Las Vegas, Nevada, we were stoked."
Picking between Sonoma and Las Vegas wasn't difficult. California it was.
"The trip included a vineyard wine tour, our hotel room, a $100 meal voucher for dinner, and a rental car," she said. "I don't think we would have ever been able to go on a honeymoon like this unless they offered this opportunity, and to be picked was amazing. We can't thank Albert's enough for the amazing honeymoon."
The whole scenario is an excellent example of Albert's commitment to forming life-long relationships with their customers. From engagement, to wedding, to honeymoon, the Covacius now have Albert's in their repertoire for life.
